Product Care
Care by material.
Advice below is specific to each material used in the collection. Where an object combines materials, follow the most cautious of the relevant entries.
General
Handle objects with clean, dry hands, lift rather than drag, and store away from direct sunlight and heat sources. When an object arrives with its own care card, that card takes precedence over this page.
Woven carbon composite
Dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. If needed, wipe with a cloth lightly dampened with water and dry immediately. Avoid solvents, alcohol and abrasive pads: they attack the clear resin surface, not the fibre. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight, as UV exposure can yellow epoxy resin over time.
Marble and travertine
Both are calcium-carbonate stones and are acid-sensitive. Wipe spills of wine, citrus, vinegar or coffee immediately, since acids etch the surface permanently. Clean with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner only, never vinegar, lemon or general-purpose descaling products. Travertine is porous; use coasters under glasses and re-apply a stone-suitable impregnating sealer as recommended by the sealer manufacturer.
Cast bronze
Bronze develops a patina as the surface oxidises. That darkening is expected and protective. Dust dry and handle with clean, dry hands, since skin oils and salts accelerate local patina. If you prefer the original tone, polish gently with a cloth intended for bronze; if you want to keep the patina, do not use metal polish at all.
Blackened and stainless steel
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry fully, because standing water causes spotting. On blackened steel, avoid abrasives and acidic cleaners: the black finish is a surface conversion layer and can be rubbed through. On stainless steel, wipe along the grain and avoid chlorine-based cleaners, which cause pitting.
Anodised and brushed aluminium
Clean with a damp cloth and a mild, pH-neutral detergent, then dry. Do not use strongly alkaline or acidic cleaners, including oven cleaners, which can strip or bleach the anodic layer.
Solid walnut and oak
Dust dry and wipe with a barely damp cloth, then dry at once. Keep away from radiators and direct sunlight, and avoid standing water, which raises the grain and leaves rings. Oiled surfaces can be refreshed with a thin coat of a hardwax or furniture oil suited to the finish, wiped back after it has soaked in.
Vegetable-tanned leather
Vegetable-tanned leather darkens with light and handling; this is inherent to the tannage. Keep dry, blot rather than rub any moisture and let it dry away from heat. Do not use saddle soap or solvent-based cleaners on unfinished leather. A minimal amount of a neutral leather conditioner, tested on a hidden area first, is enough.
Stoneware ceramic
Wash by hand in warm water with mild detergent and dry. Unglazed or raw feet can scratch furniture, so lift rather than slide. Avoid thermal shock: do not pour boiling liquid into a cold piece, and do not place a ceramic object over direct flame.
Smoked and clear glass
Clean with a lint-free cloth and a little water or a glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, not the object. Avoid abrasive pads and scouring powders, which leave micro-scratches that dull smoked glass in particular.
Cast resin
Wipe with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid alcohol, acetone and other solvents, which cloud and soften cured resin, and keep out of prolonged direct sunlight to limit yellowing.
